wandering around....

so, is it a bus man's holiday if you find yourself seated in front of your computer?
oh wait! i did venture O U T (see below) to capture video to try out new imovie editing skills... :)
here's a little wander through our neck of the 'woods'.

Altered images...

Recap. Around the end of October/early November i did an online workshop with Jane Davies, on text and image. I was drawn by Jane's expressive painterly style - so i thought i'd explore working on my collage pieces but perhaps from a more painterly angle.
I thought i'd share one of my favourite exercises from the course:

the found image on the left, was altered..then collaged into:

these 2 were altered and combined into:

these became:

i liked how altering the images made it easier to combine them visually

It was interesting to see where a handful of images ended up,
and how they take on a new identity!

Jane also has some demos on her site and a youtube channel here

Out and about...

Look, i promise not to go overboard with my new obsession, BUT i had to try a little film work while out and about yesterday. Here's what i saw...

If you're in Sydney the Chuck Close exhibition is definitely worth a look. I was pleasantly surprised at the variety, but more than that is the 'reveal', it is possible to see or get an insight into his process.

So, you can get .... up ... close.

pretty little packages ..

tied up with string...

My daughter left last week for 2 months as an exchange student in Holland.
I wanted her to have a few little bits and pieces on hand to say 'thank you' with an Aussie feel. I purchased some lemon myrtle soap - then grabbed the gelli plate.

I wasn't thinking about patterns or shapes - just the colours, mood and feel of the bush when i've wandered through it. The light is bright, the texture of the bark and gum trees..
i printed layers on several sheets.. here's how it went..
i made some 'marks' with black crayon on white paper..

I scribbled text and scrawled..

i stamped some hand made foam + rubber stamps

I was thinking sticky bark sap..

then i cut into wide strips.. and it was .. a wrap.. :)
