Oh deer - Christmas self promo!

Ok, so i think it was fun.. coming up with this years' design - sometime in October when i realised that i'd better get on to it. And of course it all works well as a little set. The heart badge keeps on reminding that special someone that you care.. aahhh.
This design is a combination of painted, stamped (cut by hand) and digital illustration, all professionally printed. The green + brown (below) reindeer was also a handmade rubber stamp - lovingly carved.

But what i want to know is: do other people have to take their Etsy shots having quickly charged all over the house looking for the last bit of sunlight, while bringing in the washing before it rains, running a bath for the kids and making sure the roast veggies don't burn??? wouldn't want to think it was just me...

On my desk

This is on my desk at the moment. Faythe Levine decided to travel the U.S making a documentary (for release in 2009) about the rise of craft and DIY. It has 24 creative people that have been interviewed in the book - some of them well known like Jenny Hart, Jill Bliss or Jennifer Perkins and perhaps some lesser known.
While it doesn't reveal anything new - it's like having a little portal available. Something that helps you travel to 'that' world for as long as it takes to have a nice cup of tea - or to take 5 minutes out. Occasionally it's also nice to step away from the computer.. although if you do want the multimedia experience listen to Alison Lee from Craftcast interviewing Faythe here. or to find out more about the move go here..

Have a creative week..

Out and about

Hello, hope you had a good week?
Last weekend i managed to go from Friday evening to Sunday evening without leaving the house (the other members of the household - including the cats, came and went)... some may think that odd or even slightly sad, no matter. I got things done. BUT This weekend was all about getting out and about, chatting, looking, catching up. It works for me - staying home creating. I find it can be quite meditative - so when i do go out, I find that i am more 'in the moment' rather than feeling like I'm on a rollercoaster trip, or resenting missed creative time!
One of my catch-ups was our altered book swap. Here is my latest edition of the 'book swap' I had the ever-so-scarey 1950's cookbook - which always seems like a daunting little number to alter..But suddenly when i read the Practical Work section which was all about collecting sets of saucepans and comparing prices - it hit me! Enid Blyton's Mr Saucepan man.. so that was the inspiration for him. The other page mentioned pot holders and the 'correct material' and how to stitch them together to make them last longer. So then i found myself stitching a tiny weeny quilted oven mit. AAaaahh!

Time to market

In other news ... yesterday was a day in, packaging up Dudley bits and pieces for the Balmain art and craft show in Sydney next weekend. I made a few more of these - my Anti-procrastination brooches..Useful for anyone you know? If you are in Sydney next weekend Nov 8-9 drop into the Father John Therry Primary School, 2 Eaton Street Balmain.

So before i sign off for another week.. recently i was tagged by the lovely Katie and Anna Laura, here goes at attempting some response.. firstly,
The rules:
- Link to the person who tagged you.
- Mention the rules.
- Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular thoughts/ramblings/details about yourself.
- Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
- Go to each person's blog and leave a comment that lets them know they've been tagged.

Here goes:

1) Sometimes i wonder if I met me for the first time, would i think my name suited me?

2) When i was about ten i would turn my room into a museum (particularly involving a shop) and thought about being a curator when i grew up.

3) When i found out i was expecting twins it felt like i had won lotto - like something amazing that i didn't think would ever happen to me!

4) I do like a bit of singing and dancing. The first musical i ever saw was Annie. My favourite musical is Rent. I absolutely hated the movie Chicago.

5) When i was 12 i won a colouring in competition in the Sunday paper - the prize was a family day out including passes to the aquarium, waterworks and lunch. Back then it seemed so far away - now it's ten minutes down the road.

6) I wish i didn't think about my hair or food so much.

I am tagging my new friend at talk to the wind as i think i have passed this on to everyone else before..BUT
if you're keen to volunteer please raise your hand now...
